Ugandan opposition leader Robert Kyagulanyi alias Bobi Wine has weighed in on the recent wave of abductions in Kenya.

While expressing sympathy, the politician noted that going by the current trend, Kenya is quickly moving from being the East African region’s beacon of hope, adding that the country is also becoming worse for government critics.

Very sad to see how quickly Kenya is descending from being regarded as a beacon of hope for our troubled East African region to now being known for abductions of young citizens critical to the government of the day.

Ugandan musician-turned-politician Bobi Wine, real name Robert Kyagulanyi, had been scheduled to perform before being detained

He urged Kenyans to uphold the rule of law and resist any attempt to return the nation back to the dark days

I sympathise with you, Wandungu, the great people of Kenya. Like I warned you previously, you must resist.

Defending the Constitution

He opined that repression is best dealt with before it takes root, urging Kenyans to make use of constitutional and legal means to defend the Constitution.

Therefore, to you Kenyan friends, you must defend your Constitution before it is too weak to defend you. If you do not uproot repression when it is a seedling, it becomes much harder when it takes root, grows into a tree, and spreads its branches everywhere.

His remarks come at a time when the government is under scrutiny following the abduction of several Kenyans.

Gachagua claims secret unit involved in abductions

Among those abducted are Kenyans who had criticised the government on social media.

Inspector General Douglas Kanja denied any involvement of the National Police Service amid piling pressure on authorities to produce the missing Kenyans.

Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua claimed that a secret unit that is not under the control of the IG is behind the abductions, placing the blame squarely on President William Ruto.

Ruto speaks on abductions in Kenya

The President on his part, promised to bring the abductions to an end while urging parents to guide and protect their children, assuring them that the government would play its part.

We all want to walk together. I want to urge all parents that our children are a blessing from God, and you should take care of them and the government will do our part. As a government, we will do our part and the issue of abductions will end in the country so the youth can live in harmony and the youth can become people of integrity and respect to move the country forward.
