Meru Governor Kawira Mwangaza faced the ultimate blow as Members of the Meru County Assembly (MCAs) successfully impeached her on Wednesday, October 25, 2023.

She was impeached after all 59 MCAs voted in favour of the motion that also had the backing of top government officials in Cabinet.

Governor Mwangaza, represented by a team of seven lawyers led by Danstan Omari, fought passionately during the highly charged session.

The grounds for impeachment included allegations of the misuse of public funds, gross misconduct, and contempt of the county assembly and court.

During the heated debate, Omari, the governor's legal representative, argued vehemently that the motion failed to meet the required threshold for impeaching a duly elected governor.

This is the second time the governor has been impeached, the first time being in 2022, after which the Senate overturned her impeachment.

In a surprising twist, Public Service CS Moses Kuria has emerged as a vocal defender of Governor Kawira Mwangaza.

Taking to social media, Kuria declared, "I stand with Governor Kawira Mwangaza. This is an evil scheme by someone who thinks that the only way to be a Mt Kenya Kingpin is to bring down other leaders not to solve the problems of our people who are getting desperate by the day. History will vindicate me."

Kuria's statement not only underscores the intensity of the political drama in Meru but also hints at a larger and more intricate political scheme among Mt Kenya leaders.

The CS suggested that the machinations against Governor Mwangaza are not merely isolated incidents but part of a broader agenda within the political landscape of the Mt Kenya region.

The search for a new Mt Kenya kingpin has been a topic of discussion for some time now.

After the retirement of former President Uhuru Kenyatta, there has been political fodder regarding a new leader who can unite the people and represent their interests at the national level.

By characterizing the situation as an "evil scheme," Kuria implies a deliberate and calculated effort by certain individuals to undermine and destabilize leaders within the Mt Kenya political sphere.

The reference to becoming a "Mt Kenya Kingpin" adds a layer of complexity, indicating that the struggle for political supremacy might be at the heart of these maneuvers.
