Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has urged Kenyans, especially Gen Zs and Millennials not to relent on their activism on social media that has brought notable change in the country and made the government to cancel some of its controversial plans.

Gachagua noted that in the absence of a voice from within President Ruto’s cabinet following his impeachment, the need is even greater at this time and especially following the political truce between Raila Odinga, retired President Uhuru Kenyatta and President Ruto.

Gachagua has on several occassions claimed that he was the only one who could speak truth to the president and question some decisions.

Speaking in Kakamega on Sunday, December 29, 2024, Gachagua urged the youth to register as voters in large numbers and so that they may use their numerical advantage at the ballot to vote in good leaders.

He opined that younger generation holds the ability to “sort out the political problems of this country once and for all”.

And the young people who are the majority have a very huge responsibility to sort out this country for us and for themselves because they are the future.

The power of Gen Zs

Kenyan youth have been vocal on social media, especially X, TikTok and Facebook where they have been demanding accountability from the government and protesting controversial government programs.

Their power was felt when in the absence of traditional political establishments and leadership, the youth and Kenyans at large successfully protested against the Finance Bill 2024, with President William Ruto responding by setting aside the controversial bill that would have introduced more taxes.
