Former KTN News Anchor to be investigated afresh over mysterious murder of woman

Former KTN news anchor Louis Otieno is set to be investigated afresh over the death of Careen Chepchumba following the recommendations of a court.

Former Kibera Resident magistrate Charles Ondiek urged the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) to direct fresh probe to resolve the murder of Careen.

Ondiek accused police of bungling the investigations and recommended a public inquest into the matter.

The court also questioned how the police cleared the ex-Tv anchor of any wrongdoing before they conducted forensic analysis on his phone and that of the deceased.

“The cause of Careen’s death was not suicide, it was not accidental. The cause of death of Careen Chepchumba Kili can not be said to be undetermined. The cause was strangulation. These are inevitable findings,” the court stated.

Autopsy

Chepchumba, 26, was found lying dead in her bed at Santonia Court, off Kirichwa Road in Kilimani, Nairobi, on February 14, 2012.

Chief government pathologist Dr Johansen Odour told an inquest into the death that an autopsy revealed that Careen bled in the eyes and neck muscles due to pressure applied on her neck by the assailant.

“There was bleeding in the left eye, there was also bleeding on the neck muscles. We formed the opinion that death was due to lack of oxygen due to manual strangulation, ” Dr Odour said.

He mentioned that Careen could have been sexually assaulted by the assailant.

However, Otieno has always maintained that he never killed Careen nor had a romantic affair with her noting that she was only a friend.
