The body of Lydia Tokesi, a 29-year-old Moi University graduate, was discovered in a thicket at Gataka Forest, Ongata Rongai, Kajiado County, on Sunday, January 12.
Lydia had been missing for nine days, with her last known sighting reported on January 4. Her family’s relentless search ended tragically when her mutilated body, showing signs of torture, was found in the forest.
Family identifies body
According to reports from Citizen TV, detectives stumbled upon the body and alerted the family, who positively identified her clothes at the scene.
Investigators have since launched a probe into Lydia’s disappearance and murder. DNA tests are expected to confirm the identity of the remains.
Relationship troubles
Lydia was last seen with her boyfriend, whom she had dated for over eight years. The family alleges that their relationship had been strained, citing concerns that Lydia had taken a bank loan to purchase a vehicle for her boyfriend.
The vehicle, which he used as a taxi in Nairobi, was later found abandoned near Lydia’s parents’ home with bloodstains, raising further suspicions about his involvement.
As part of their investigations, detectives raided the boyfriend’s house in Ongata Rongai and recovered several items believed to be critical evidence.
Among the recovered items was a love letter hinting at a troubled relationship, which authorities suspect could be linked to Lydia’s murder.
Manhunt for suspect
Lydia’s death has sent shockwaves through her community, with many expressing outrage and grief over the tragic incident.
Friends and neighbours described her as a hardworking and kind-hearted individual who had a promising future ahead.
The prime suspect, Lydia’s boyfriend, remains at large. Law enforcement agencies have intensified efforts to apprehend him. The family is urging investigative agencies to expedite their probe and bring the suspect to justice.
