There has been unrest among secondary school students leading to the closure of several institutions around the country in just one week.

From fire incidents to protest launched against school heads mark some of the reasons leading to the indefinite closure of at least five secondary schools.

Well-known schools including Maranda High School and Kisumu Girls' High School are among the top institutions, where students have been sent home.

On Wednesday, County Education Director ordered the closure of Maranda High School over student unrest.

The students allegedly protested over tough school rules in the institution.

Pulselive.co.ke compiled a list of other institutions that have been closed in the past seven days.

1. Ng'iya Girls' – On Tuesday the girls were sent home after they went on a rampage and destroyed property accusing the principal of hardhandedness.

2. Chalbi Boys – This happened after the students attacked six-non local teachers.

3. Mariela Boys secondary school – The students were allegedly demanding for a bus and entertainment every weekend.

Education Principal Secretary Belio Kipsang issued a stern warning to student against the unrest noting that those found culpable will be treated as criminals.
