President William Ruto has issued a stern warning to the contractor responsible for the Kisii Cancer Centre, expressing frustration over the slow progress of the project.
Speaking during a visit to the site on January 1, President Ruto emphasised the government's commitment to ensuring timely delivery of critical healthcare infrastructure.
I was here almost four months ago, and we agreed on what should be done. But it’s not happening.
The President instructed Principal Secretary Harry Kimutai to issue a final warning to the contractor, demanding urgent action to avoid termination of the contract.
This is unacceptable. You have been paid all the money required, and there is no pending certificate. There is absolutely no reason why this project is lagging.
A site meeting is scheduled for January 3, 2025, to review the contractor's performance and chart the way forward.
President Ruto instructed PS Kimutai to personally attend the meeting.
This is the year for delivery. We will not tolerate delays. If you don’t pull up your socks, we will terminate this contract and get another contractor to ensure this cancer center is completed.
The Kisii Cancer Centre, projected to cost $22.8 million (Sh 2.9 billion), will be financed through contributions from the Kenya Government ($2.8 million), the Arab Bank for Economic Development in Africa ($10 million), and the Saudi Fund for Development ($10 million).
The Kisii Cancer Centre is a flagship healthcare project aimed at providing specialised cancer treatment and care to residents of Kisii and neighboring counties.
