Social media personality Kasmuel McOure who became an internet sensation at the height of Gen Z-led anti-government protests in June and July 2024 has met President William Ruto with Nandi Senator Samson Cherargei celebrating the meeing and sharing lessons.

The lawmaker who was impressed with the meeting urged Gen Zs to be strategic in their quest for a better Kenya.

Alluding to Kasmuel’s transformation from a Gen Z protester to rubbing shoulders with politicians including the President and ODM leader Raila Odinga, Cherargei called for a change in approach.

He opined that the mantra of being tribeless and leaderless that was adopted at the height of the protests when government cracked down on social media personalities and Gen Zs perceived to be in the lead will not work.

According to Cherargei, politics is all about interests and Gen Zs need to learn a thing or two from Kasmuel.

Cherargei's lessons on Ruto meeting Kasmuel

Sharing a photo of Kasmuel with the Head of State, Cherargei noted that like Kasmuel, the youth should accept to work with the government for the betterment of Kenya claiming that they are not only agendaless but also directionless and this will not work.

Kasmuel joined President Ruto for a Sunday church service at A.I.C Kipkorgot church in Ainabkoi, Uasin Gishu County on December 22, 2024.

He was pictured shaking hands with the President and exchanging a few pleasantries with the president whose administration he protested against only a few months ago.

Reactions to Kasmuel's meeting with Ruto & Cherargei's advice

Netizens weighed in with many noting that Kasmuel may have had his interest which are not aligned with those of Kenya’s Gen Zs.

Criticism pile as Kasmuel rubs shoulders with politicians

Kasmuel came under heavy criticism with some accusing him of using the protests to advance his personal interests.

Some noted that he was not genuine from the start, citing the speed with which he embraced politicians who in the government and joined Raila Odinga-led ODM party.

He was booed and turned back when he attempted to join protesters who took to the streets to raise awareness on femicide and demand action from the government.
