A woman on Monday took her life and that of her two children after she burned down her house while inside it in Otongolo Area, Kisumu County.

The woman, who was identified as Rukia Wasuna, is claimed to have committed the act after she discovered that her husband had plans to bring a new wife to the home.

Reports indicated that the 26-year-old woman locked herself together with her children aged 6 years and 3 years after she bought petrol from the nearby petrol station and proceeded to set the structure on fire.

The incident was confirmed by Central Kisumu location Chief Simon Osege Orwa who said that that investigations into the matter had begun.

The chief further explained that the husband to the deceased was away for work at the time of the incident.

Couple Feud

In August this year, a woman set her house on fire in South Kanyanjouk that killed one child and left two others injured.

Rongo OCPD Peter Kirui pointed out that the woman, Ms Emily Odhiambo who was the wife of the local assistant chief David Onyango, committed the criminal act after an argument with her husband.

Those close to the family noted that the couple had numerous domestic feuds that had led to frequent separations.

A relative remarked that, “The two have been fighting frequently and the woman had been telling people that she will do something nasty to punish the husband for planning to marry a second wife.”

Kirui further highlighted that one of the children succumbed to serious burns while undergoing treatment.
