Wamalwa reveals how Jubilee sacked Yvonne Wamalwa, subjecting her to poverty

The Jubilee administration has been accused of sacking Yvonne Wamalwa, subjecting her to a life of poverty before she eventually died.

Kiminini Member of Parliament Chris Wamalwa put the record straight, saying: "President Mwai Kibaki appointed our departed sister as an ambassador. But when Jubilee took over, she was sacked. Yvonne died a poor woman."

According to The Star, the legislator who was speaking in Kitale also took issues with the Jubilee administration for deceiving Kenyans that the former Vice President’s wife died while still in office.

He revealed the shortly after she was fired, Yvonne was subjected to a life of poverty and could not afford medication, forcing her to go and stay with her sister in Nanyuki.

Reports had indicated that Yvonne served as a deputy director in the Foreign Affairs ministry but according to Wamalwa, that was not the case.

The legislator lamented that "the government should have honoured this woman by retaining her in the position Kibaki appointed her to. It is so painful that she just died like that".

President Kenyatta eulogized the deceased, stating that "the passing of Yvonne has robbed us of a selfless leader who was a role model in her community and in the nation. Hers was servant leadership".

Yvonne was widowed in 2003 following the death of former Vice President Michael Kijana Wamalwa.

Her burial is set for next Saturday.
