Naftali Kinuthia, the suspect in the gruesome killing of Moi University student Ivy Wangeci, has been charged with murder.
Appearing before the Eldoret High Court on Tuesday, Kinutha denied the murder charge.
The 29-year-old appeared before Eldoret Senior Resident Magistrate Douglas Moseti after the prosecution confirmed that he is fit for trial.
Kinuthia is alleged to have hacked to death Wangeci, a sixth-year medical student at Moi University School of Medicine outside Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital.
Detained
He reportedly told investigators that the late Ms Wangeci, who was his childhood friend, had rejected his advances.
Kinuthia was detained for 14 days as the police finished up their probe and gathering of evidence relevant to the case.
Samples from the suspect and the deceased were also taken for testing at the government chemist.
The suspect was said to have openly admitted to detectives of having killed Ivy citing her failure to show him love in return for all the money he claimed to have invested in her.
Eldoret East DCI boss, Ali Kingi had stated that Kinuthia claimed he had sent Wangechi money, which she was supposed to use in organising her birthday party.
