Opposition leader Raila Odinga’s son on Thursday disclosed that he had spoken to his father concerning the 8-percent VAT on petroleum products.

Raila Jr, who is opposing the move, said that he extensively explained to the former Prime Minister why he was against the increased tax.

This comes a day after he started an online protest encouraging Kenyans opposing the VAT on fuel to pile pressure on their Members of Parliament to vote against the Finance Bill.

The young Odinga added that he also asked his father to give Opposition-allied MPs to vote independently.

“I have given  my views against the 8% rise in VAT and expressed reasoning for MPs to vote independently. ,” he tweeted.

Mr. Odinga agreed to support President Uhuru Kenyatta’s proposal to have the 8-percent VAT on fuel.

After a meeting the Opposition Chief held with his members on Monday, the NASA lawmakers gave seven conditions under which they were supporting Kenyatta’s proposal.
