Waititu makes U-turn, ditches DP Ruto’s camp and declares support for BBI and handshake

Embattled Kiambu Governor Ferdinand Waititu has renounced his association with Jubilee Party’s Tangatanga group allied to DP William Ruto and declared support for the handshake team.

Waititu who has been one of DP Ruto’s loyal allies and a leading critic of the Building Bridges Initiative and the handshake made the pronouncements on Sunday, 17 November 2019.

In a video seen by Pulselive.co.ke, the embattled governor is heard telling a crowd in his Kikuyu language that “There is now no Tanga Tanga or Kieleweke. No one can claim he owns Uhuru more than the other. This is now past tense”.

“I am 100 percent fully behind the Building Bridges Initiative and the handshake,” added Waititu.

Babayao, as he is famously known is facing charges of corruption in a scandal that has roped in his wife and daughter.

He was barred from managing Kiambu County or stepping in his office until the Sh588 million tender saga is heard and determined.

The county is currently being managed by his deputy, James Nyoro.
