MP’s Bodyguard Shot Dead

The Bodyguard of Likuyani MP Dr. Enoch Kibunguchy was shot dead on Sunday night by armed thugs at Soy Area in Kakamega County.

Monday, Police said the assailants opened fire at the MP’s vehicle shortly after the driver had started the engine. police suspect that the MP was the target of the attack that saw the driver shot in the head and killed instantly.

The body of the deceased Bodyguard was taken to Moi Referral Teaching and Hospital mortuary in Eldoret.

According to the Western Region Deputy police Chief Leonard Omolo, the gang shot at the car as the MP was preparing to leave.

“Fortunately, the MP was still upstairs when the attack happened. He was not injured but we suspect he was the target of the attack,” said Mr Omolo.

ODM director of Communications, Phillip Etale, expressed concern for the MP’s security and requested DCI to commence investigations.

“My heart goes out to Likuyani MP Dr. Enoch Kibunguchy following the shooting of his bodyguard by armed thugs last night in Soy area. It is understood the thugs were targeting the MP. DCI should investigate the incident and bring the culprits to book” wrote Phillip Etale.

Kibunguchy successfully vied for the Likuyani parliamentary seat in the 2017 General Election. Last month, the Court of Appeal upheld the election of the second term legislator.
