ODM chairman slams the party over nepotism

John Mbadi admits that ODM nominated some legislators based on nepotism, personal relationship with party officials

Close ally to Raila Odinga and Suba South MP John Mbadi has hit out at Orange Democratic Movement, admitting that nepotism personal relationship with party officials has hampered nomination of qualified candidates.

Addressing the public in Sango secondary school on Friday, Mbadi admitted that better candidates have often been denied ODM party ticket in favour of those with personal relationships and relatives to party officials.

“Some MCAs were nominated because of personal relationship with party officials but they don’t know their roles” Mbadi said.

He disclosed that the criteria would be reviewed as it has led to many legislators failing to execute their legislative roles and cannot contribute to motions tabled in county assemblies, instead resorting to fist fights.

"A number of MCAs who get nomination are not qualified hence have failed to deliver in the county assemblies,” Mbadi noted.

Chaos have constantly been witnessed during ODM nominations especially in Nyanza where the party commands fanatical support.

Last year during the party’s nomination exercise, Mbita MP Millie Odhiambo’s bodyguard Ken Okore was killed in party nomination chaos that left 6 others injured.

A section of the public also raised concern after Raila Odinga’s elder brother Oburu Oginga was nominated to the East African Legislative Assembly.
