Mutula Junior explains what will happen immediately Sonko is impeached

Makueni Senator Kilonzo Mutula Junior has explained what will happen immediately Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko is impeached.

Mr Mutula, who is also a lawyer, explained that should the governor leave office, there will be fresh elections, adding that there is a high possibility of it happening, given the announcement by Jubilee party Vice Chairman David Murathe.

Mutula cast doubts on the possibility of blocking the process, hinting that both the Senate and the Nairobi Assembly is filled with Jubilee lawmakers, making it complicated.

“There is more than meets the eye in the charade in Nairobi County .Things are falling apart fast and furious. If the Governor resigns or is impeached, Nairobi will go back to the ballot. Jubilee party has majority at the county and Senate,” the Senator tweeted Friday.

On Thursday, Jubilee Party Vice Chairman David Murathe claimed that Governor Mike Sonko had named the lawyer to divert attention from questions about his performance.

The remarks of Mr Murathe, a top official of Jubilee, which sponsored Sonko’s candidature in the last elections, is a surprise admission that the governor has fallen out of favour with the party’s top brass, more compounded by his latest move to nominate Miguna as his deputy.

“Sonko is forestalling his impeachment which has nothing to do with the DG’s position but his administration’s dismal performance. He is covering up his mistakes by trying to divert attention. His nomination of Miguna is of no significance,” said Murathe.

He added: “The impeachment will proceed and it has to do with failures to deliver services to the people as was pledged by the party during campaigns. He can throw tantrums but they will have no consequence. We want action and not talking lies.”
