Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko has assured city residents that his emergency team is ready to respond if the flood problem deteriorates.
Sonko issued a statement after Nairobi residents spent the better morning stuck in traffic owing to the heavy floods occasioned by blocked drainage.
Many other residents have been displaced from their homes as a result on flush floods.
The Nairobi Governor further stated that his administration was quickly working on unblocking the drainage system in the city, whose blockage Sonko blamed on the Kidero administration.
"In the same vein, I am shocked that some sh10 billion set aside by the previous administration for unblocking the drainage system did not go to the intended use but ended up in the pockets of some unscrupulous characters," Sonko stated.
He regretted that the current system did not allow for harvesting of the rain water in preparation for the looming dry season.
"As my long term plan, I will be exploring ways of how we can harvest this water and put to use when the dry season- which is sure to follow soon- catches up with us," the City boss complained.
