The Raila Odinga led National Super Alliance on Thursday issued its final outlook of the hyped swearing-in ceremony.
In a statement to the press, the coalition maintained that the event will take place at the controversial Uhuru Park even after Nairobi City County, through a public notice on Wednesday, said the venue would be closed until further notice to allow for “phased improvement”.
On Saturday, the team has said, Nyanza region leaders would be hosted by Homa Bay County leadership for a major forum ahead of the event.
“On Saturday 27 January, the Luo Nyanza People’s Consultative Forum will be hosted by Homa Bay County.
“We wish to salute the Luo Nyanza people for consistently and resolutely standing up against electoral injustice throughout the 50 years of Kenya’s independence,” reads part of the statement sent to newsrooms on Thursday.
It adds: “The Luo Nyanza Assembly as with all others will deliberate on how to remake this nation so that is works for us. We are convinced that this country has no future if we do not agree on how to share power and exercise it responsibly.”
On Wednesday, Nasa leaders stayed put on and assured its supporters that the swearing-in ceremony would go on as slated.
This comes even as the National Super Alliance (Nasa) has said the swearing-in ceremony for their leaders Raila Odinga and Kalonzo Musyoka as the ‘people’s president’ and deputy president will proceed as planned on Tuesday.
Mr Sonko said his administration had already hired contractors to revamp the terraces and work on the grass at the famous park within Nairobi’s central business district before it can be opened again to the public.
“No group will be allowed into Uhuru Park as we are currently doing renovations at the facility to improve its terraces and grass and already the contractor is on the ground,” Mr Sonko said on Tuesday during an interview with a radio station.
