Serial rapist gets 9 life sentences in South Africa

A serial rapist has been sentenced to nine life jail terms by a South African court, meaning he will spend the rest of his life in prison.

A serial rapist in South Africa went into the history books after he was given nine life sentences on conviction by Western Cape High Court.

Times Live reports that the convict, Mthunzi Hlomane, known popularly as 'University of Cape Town,' was arrested in February in connection with the rape of five women between November 2015 and February 2016 near the Rhodes Memorial in Cape Town.

During the court appearance, Hlomane allegedly entered into a plea and sentencing agreement which culminated in the nine life sentences he got.

Hlomane reportedly pleaded guilty to kidnapping, assault, robbery and raping of numerous women last year.

Times added that though the nine life sentences will not run concurrently, will remain in jail for the rest of his life.
