Outgoing British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) Africa Business Editor Larry Madowo has revealed details of his last meeting with late Kibra MP Ken Okoth.
In a series of tweets, Larry said that he last met the legislator in Paris, France where he was undergoing cancer treatment in June.
He went on to reveal that he talked to the Kibra MP about vying for Governor but he declined saying that he was okay serving his Kibra constituents.
Mr Madowo commended the late Okoth for making sure things ran even when he was undergoing treatment abroad.
“I saw Ken Okoth last in Paris in June. He wasn’t doing too well on that day but he’d been there before. He was optimistic & also excited about moving back to Nairobi. We talked about the Governor role & I teased him that he should run. He just wanted to serve Kibra. What a loss. Ken Okoth bravely battled his cancer for over a year before going public with it. He kept his constituency running & his team attended to people’s needs. He was undergoing a major health crisis but didn’t want to distract from the work he was elected to do. This man was special,” said Larry Madowo.
MP Okoth’s death
His words come a day after the Kibra MP died at the Nairobi Hospital where he was receiving treatment after being admitted at the facility on Thursday night.
Okoth had returned to the country earlier this month after a long battle with cancer that saw him seek treatment at a hospital in Paris, France.
