Celebrity marriages is something that has been on a growing trend across the media fraternity in Kenya. Several media personalities from radio to TV are settling down with their colleagues. However, some of these marriages have failed to stand the test of time with some ending in nasty break-ups.
Here are media personalities who married their colleagues;
Rashid Abdalla and Lulu Hassan
Citizen TV Swahili News anchors Lulu Hassan and Rashid Abdalla became the first ever married couple to present news on a Kenyan TV. This came to be after Rashid, who was an anchor and presenter at NTV, made the switch to the Royal Media Services.
The two met while they worked at Muslim Radio Station Iqra FM and they are blessed with three children.
Nancy Onyancha and Joab Mwaura
Former K24 Swahili news anchor Nancy Onyancha got married to her colleague and Special features Editor Joab Mwaura in 2018.
The two tied the knot in a lavish wedding that was only attended by close friends and family members. They went public about their relationship a few months to their wedding. Currently, Onyancha works at KBC, yet Mwaura is a freelance Journalist.
John Allan Namu and Sheena Makena
Former KTN investigative reporter John Allan Namu got married to Sheena Makena, who was his boss at the Standard Group. The two met while she worked as an Editor at KTN and Namu was just an intern.
They later on left KTN and they work in their own production company called Africa Uncensored. Namu is the CEO while Makena is a Senior Editor.
They are blessed with four kids.
Waihiga Mwaura and Joyce Omondi
Citizen TV’s Day Break presenter Waihiga Mwaura met his wife Joyce Omondi while they both worked for the S.K Macharia owned TV station. Waihiga worked as a Sports news anchor while Joyce worked as Sunday morning Gospel show 'Rauka' host.
Ms Omondi later on quit the station and went abroad for studies, before she returned and they got married in an invites only wedding in Naivasha, in 2016.
Joyce, who is also a Gospel singer, currently works as a presenter at Switch TV.
Amina Abdi and John Rabar
NTV’s Amina Abdi got married to her boss while she worked for Homeboyz Radio in an affair that was secretly guarded until recently. John Rabar, who was Homeboyz Radio CEO, met Amina when she joined Homeboyz radio school where she emerged top and got a job at the radio station.
They are blessed with a son.
Evelyne Wambui and Karuri Nyaga
Former Citizen TV features reporter Evelyn Wambui got married to the love of her life Karuri Nyaga in 2014. The two met while they both worked at the Royal Media Services before Karuri left the Communication Centre for CCTV Africa.
Betty Kyallo and Dennis Okari
Former K24 weekend News anchor Betty Mutei Kyallo got married to her ex-husband Dennis Okari in October 2015 before their marriage hit rock bottom and they parted ways. Betty and Okari met while he worked at the Standard Group station as a reporter and she was only an intern.
The two went on to date for about six years and they were blessed with a daughter called Ivanna.
Sam Gituku and Ivy Waitherero
This is the latest couple to have joined the club of media personalities who married their colleagues. Citizen TV reporter cum Day Break host Sam Gituku walked down the aisle the love of his life Ivy Waitherero in a colourful wedding that took place on Saturday last week.
Ivy works as a News Director at the Royal Media Services.
