Four Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) officers died on Sunday night in a grisly road crash.
Confirming the accidents, Buuri OCPD Joseph Asugo stated that the KDF officers died after a vehicle they were travelling in was involved in a head-on collision on the Meru–Isiolo Highway.
Mr Asugo said the driver of the vehicle carrying the KDF officers lost control before colliding head-on with an oncoming private car at Matunda area.
The officers died on the spot while the four other people — a man his wife and two children — who were in the private car sustained injuries.
The four were admitted at Kiirua Mission Hospital where they are receiving treatment.
NTSA to pedestrians
A report by the National Transport and Safety Authority paints a grim picture on the rise of road accidents in the country since January 2019.
According to the report by the NTSA, a total of 2,499 people have lost their lives on the road compared to 2,153 who died by September 16, 2019.
This is according to the latest survey by the Authority. Pedestrians still lead the pack with 969 having lost their lives.
NTSA urged pedestrians to use footbridges, especially in cities although pedestrians some have expressed concern about the safety of these bridges with claims of being mugged and robbed.
