A Bahati aspiring Member of Parliament is nursing serious injuries at Nakuru Level Five hospital after engaging in a fistfight with incumbent MP Kimani Ngunjiri.

John Mbugua, an independent candidate, divulged that he was at a radio station with Ngunjiri on Sunday night when his opponent attacked him.

According to Mbugua, the MP descended on him with blows and was joined by his bodyguard.

The aspiring MP claimed that Ngunjiri wrestled him to the ground and insulted him using unprintable words.

“Ngunjiri resorted to violence instead of selling his agenda and unfortunately turned the radio studio into a battleground. His bodyguard also joined him in beating me,” he said.

Mbugua reported the matter to Area police boss Joshua Omukata who mentioned: “If the investigation will reveal that the crime occurred, those culpable will face the law”.

However, Ngunjiri rubbished the claims as mere propaganda. He stated that Mbugua was simply looking for sympathy votes.

“The people of Bahati will not be swayed by sympathy votes...I have no reason to fight anyone to get votes here,” he said.

Ngunjiri, who is seeking reelection on a Jubilee ticket, claimed that Mbugua had stage managed the injuries.
