Retired President Mwai Kibaki has disclosed details of his health for the first time in public after undergoing an operation in South Africa last year.
Speaking at Nanyuki sports club on Sunday, Kibaki stated that he still experienced neck pains months after being discharged from the South Africa hospital. The former Head of State noted that he could not speak loudly because of the pain he felt around his neck.
“I have a problem here, that is why my voice is so low (the former Head of State said while he pointed at his throat)… It is good to talk the truth because there is nothing to hide,” Kibaki was quoted.
Kibaki was campaigning for his nephew David Muriithi, who is eyeing Laikipia gubernatorial seat on a jubilee ticket. He urged the electorate to elect leaders who will spearhead development in the region while indirectly endorsing Mr Muriithi for the Laikipia seat.
"Those who work hard are always admired. I have experience in this things and I have been there. I believe we will succeed and have the job," Kibaki said.
The former leader was flown to Netcare Sunninghill Hospital, South Africa in August 2016 to remove a blood clot in a vein in his neck.
After undergoing a successful operation, Kibaki jetted back into the country and has kept a low profile.
