The Higher Education Loans Board (HELB) on Thursday announced a 100 per cent waiver on loan defaulters, until June 2018.
Speaking during a consultative forum with employers, Education CS Amina Mohammed called upon the beneficiaries to take up the advantage and repay Sh8.1 billion owed by 78,000 graduates.
“78,000 loanees owe HELB KSh 8.1B. With 100% penalty waiver until June, we call upon all the beneficiaries to take advantage of the generous offer by the government.
"From today 3rd May, 2018 to 30th June, 2018, all HELB loan beneficiaries will benefit 100% penalty waiver,” Amb. Amina Mohammed said.
Bonga points
In the latest turn, HELB has also enabled a feature which will allow Safaricom PLC subscribers to repay their loan using Bonga Points, through redeeming.
“Embracing cryptocurrency, you can use your Safaricom PLC Bonga points to repay your HELB loan,” HELB Chief Executive Officer, Charles Ringera told the employers forum in a Nairobi hotel.
