Breakdown of KCPE 2018 results

Education CS Amina Mohamed on Monday released the 2018 KCPE results, barely three weeks after pupils finished sitting their exams.

Mohamed revealed that the top candidate in this year's KCPE exam scored 453 marks (a tie between students).

The top student with special needs scored 446 marks, an increase of 20 marks from the 2017 results.

The Education CS said a total of 12,273 candidates scored at least 400 marks while more than half of the pupils attained at least 250 marks out of the possible 500.

KCPE Boy/Girl performance

A total of 1,052,364 pupils sat for the 2018 end of primary school education, with a total of 228,414 students scored between 301-400 marks.

Overall, 527,294 (50.1%) of this year's candidates were boys, while 525,070 (49.9%) were of the female gender.

According to the CS, female candidates performed better than their male counterparts in English, Kiswahili and Kenyan Sign Language.

The boy child performed better in Mathematics, Science, Social Studies and Religious Studies.
