Former President Daniel Arap Moi has been discharged from Ichalov Hospital in Tel Aviv, Israel.

Mr Moi was released after undergoing a series of medical checkups. According to his aide the former Head of State will be taking time to visit holy sites in Jerusalem.

“Mzee has been released after doctors gave him a clean bill of health after check-ups on his knee, which had been causing him discomfort,” the statement read.

This new development on Moi’s health comes amid fake death reports that were circulated widely on social media.

On Wednesday evening, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs dismissed the widely circulate death reports stating: "Ordinarily the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Trade does not comment or react to misinformation, fake and ill-intentioned rumour or innuendo peddled as news in the media".

"Today, however, we are forced to clarify that the FAKE news maliciously circulated by some individuals regarding the well being of former President Daniel Arap Moi is completely untrue," the statement reads in part.

The Ministry added :"The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Trade would like to confirm that H.E. the former President is in Tel Aviv, Israel, for a routine medical check-up that has been very successful. H.E .the former President is recuperating well and is in very good health,"

Mr Moi travelled to Israel for a medical check-up and was accompanied by his son and Baringo senator Gideon Moi and his personal doctor David Silverstein.

According to Dr David Silverstein, they were keen to have a second opinion on his knee which has been a source of discomfort to the former president.
