Kenyan woman makes strange request to CS Matiangi

The woman's bizarre request comes hours before CS Matiangi tours her area.

A Kenyan woman from Mt Elgon has made a strange request to Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiangi just hours before the CS is set tour the volatile region.

CS Matiangi and his Lands counterpart Farida Karoney are set to tour the Mt Elgon region on Wednesday to assess the security situation in the area that has witnessed a rise in violence that has resulted in several killings in the past few weeks.

The visit by the two CSs comes barely three days after Deputy President William Ruto toured the region and condemned the spate of killings and attacks in Mt Elgon.

Ruto's warning

DP Ruto warned that the the government will be justified to use force to apprehend criminals and those behind the killings.

A 29-year-old woman whose husband was among those killed in a recent attack in the area, has now appealed to CS Matiangi to help in returning the head of her late spouse.

Phemi Chebet revealed that her husband was killed by two armed bandits who shot him using AK-47 rifles and chopped of his head and went away with it.

"They shot my husband in the chest at close range and then chopped off his head. They then put his head in a bag they were carrying and ran away with it. I am appealing to the Government to help me get the head of my husband so that we can bury his full corpse. In our tradition, you cannot bury your husband without his head,” a grief-stricken Chebet told The Standard.

Financial assistance

The mother of five also appealed for financial assistance from well-wishers to help in off-setting the mortuary billl which has been increasing by the day as she awaits the burial of her husband.

Area MP Fred Kapondi has accused a local politician of supporting the wave of violence that has hit the region.

"The criminals are jailbirds who are well-known as they have rape and robbery with violence cases in court," he said.
