Amani National Congress party leader Musalia Mudavadi on Wednesday explained what President Uhuru Kenyatta's appointment of Interior CS Fred Matiang'i portended for Deputy President William Ruto.

President Kenyatta appointed Dr Matiang'i as the chair of the newly constituted National Development Implementation and Communication Committee

Mudavadi dismissed claims that Matiangi's new position meant that the DP had been sidelined.

The NASA principal defended the president saying that his appointment is in line with the Constitution.

He added that the Interior CS's role will not infringe on the DP's mandate.

Service Delivery

Mudavadi added that the new role will guarantee service delivery to Kenyans.

He explained that the Interior CS will bring efficiency within the national government and streamline projects and activities.

Homa Bay Woman Representative Gladys Wanga and her Murang'a counterpart Sabina Chege have also supported the President's move.

The two also assured members of the public that the presidency is still intact.

The Committee Matiang'i now heads includes all Cabinet Secretaries, Attorney General Paul Kihara as well as the Head of Public Service Joseph Kinyua.

He will be deputized by Treasury CS Henry Rotich.

The National Transport and Safety Authority was also transferred from the Ministry of Transport and will now be part of Matiangi's docket.
