Uhuru's message to David Rudisha after father died

President Uhuru Kenyatta on Wednesday issued a statement shortly after the demise of Daniel Rudisha, father to World Record Holder David Rudisha.

In a message to the world-renowned athlete and his family, President Kenyatta assured them that his prayers are with them.

The president further mourned Daniel Rudisha as a hero, trail-blazer and keen mentor to many.

"My heartfelt condolences and prayers of comfort to the family and friends of Mzee Daniel Rudisha.

"Mzee Rudisha was a Kenyan athletics hero, a pioneer Olympian, coach and teacher who mentored many in the sport.

"To David Rudisha and your entire family, my prayers are with you," the President's statement read.

Daniel Rudisha was seriously ill

At 73 years old, Daniel Rudisha passed on while undergoing dialysis. He had a fatal heart attack.

“Our beloved father sadly left us last night. He had recovered and was on his way to fine health having been taken off the Intensive Care Unit.

"He was talking well and joking as usual while undergoing his dialysis treatment but at around 11pm, he suffered a sudden heart attack and efforts to resuscitate him did not bear any fruit,” David Rudisha narrated to Sport Pesa News.
