Judge slaps Joho's cousin with Sh7 million fine

The High Court in Mombasa has dismissed a petition challenging the election of Mohamed Ali as Nyali MP.

Ali's win in the August 8 election had challenged by his closest challenger, Abdalla Said - popularly known as Saido.

Saido is a cousin to Mombasa Governor Ali Hassan Joho and run on an ODM ticket.

Lady Justice Lydia Achode ruled that Ali was validly elected and that Saido's claims of election irregularities were not supported by evidence.

Joho's cousin will now pay election costs totalling Sh7 million.

Ali will be paid Sh3.5 million while the IEBC will receive an equal amount.
