There was drama in Kericho as a Jubilee Member of Parliament was on Saturday kicked out of a hotel, for lack of a marriage certificate.
Laikipia Women Representative Catherine Waruguru caused a scene at a Hotel in Kericho after the management cancelled Waruguru and her husband’s room reservation for failing to produce a marriage certificate.
Sunshine Upperhill hotel in Kericho has a strict rule that requires couples to produce their marriage certificate, before they can be accommodated.
According to the Standard, Ms. Waruguru had gone to Kericho to visit her father-in-law and other members of the family and when they came back to the hotel at around 9PM, they were denied entry into their room.
“I checked at the hotel at 4PM and filled the registration card which I indicated my name and my husband’s name and was given room 402. We will not allow any more married women and men to suffer embarrassment in the hand of hospitality industry players who feel that someone cannot spend money for a room and spend it there in a dignified way until they produce a marriage certificate,” said the Laikipia Women Rep.
Sunday Standard reported that when reached for a comment, the hotel manager Frank Kirui said he would issue a statement later.
