Panic as lions invade top national school

Teachers at Kenyatta High School in Mwatate were on Monday night in panic after a pride of lions made their way into the school compound after breaking out of the Tsavo National Park.

The lions are reported to have invaded the school in search of water and had killed several livestock in Mwatate before ending up at Kenyatta High School.

The school administration has since been forced to adjust the learning schedule with classes starting at 9 am while students go to bed early for fear of being attacked by the lions, notoriously referred to as the Tsavo man eaters.

“I had commotion outside my house at night and when I went out, I came face to face with a big lion that was roaming around the school. I froze on seeing the wild animal outside my door,” Joseph Kiamba, a teacher at Kenyatta Boys High School was quoted by the Standard.

Area Deputy Governor Majala Mlagui asked the national government to move with speed and tame the lions and resolve the looming human-wildlife conflict.
