Uhuru postpones today’s critical meeting because of Raila

Here is why

President Uhuru Kenyatta’s visit to Nyanza region has reportedly been postponed due to the absence of ODM leader Raila Odinga.

President Kenyatta was today (Friday) expected to visit Nyatike in Migori County and was to host his Tanzania counterpart President John Magufuli.

The two leaders were to be accompanied by Odinga who is still engaged in a formal visit to India.

Ther Nation quoted security officials as explaining the postponement to have been necessitated by the need to accommodate all guests.

Rongo MP Paul Abuor, a close ally of the former Prime Minister, said the visit was cancelled due to the absence of Odinga who is still in India.

Late last month, Odinga hosted a group of local leaders in Nyatike as part of the preparation for the high-profile visit.

The initial plan was that President Kenyatta and President Magufuli would visit the Kenya-Tanzania border to be briefed on measures being taken to curb smuggling of goods across the rather porous borders.

The leaders were then to be hosted for lunch at Odinga’s rural home at Opoda Farm.
