23-yr-old man remanded for attempted kidnap of ex-employer's grandchildren

An Ebute Meta Chief Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday remanded a 23-year-old man in prison over alleged attempt to kidnap three siblings for ransom.

The Chief Magistrate, Mrs A.O. Ajibade, ordered that the accused be remanded in Ikoyi Prison pending legal advice from the office of the State Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).

The accused, Lekan Bakare, of no fixed address, is facing a charge of attempted kidnap of three grandchildren of his former employer.

The plea of the accused was, however, not taken.

The Prosecutor, Insp. Oladele Adebayo, had told the court that the accused committed the offence on May 25 at Adelu in Dopemu area of Lagos.

“The accused had asked another to help him in the kidnap of , and, but his attempt failed when his accomplice alerted the police on the plans,” he said.

The offences contravened Section 406 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

Further hearing has been fixed for July 5.
