Wambui Kamiru, the widow of former Safaricom CEO Bob Collymore on Wednesday marked her late husband's birthday.

She posted a photo of the two of them where the deceased was seen trying to shield himself from the camera.

While responding to comments on her post, Ms Kamiru acknowledged that her late husband could not be forgotten.

A hopeful Wambui, however, added that she is thankful for the numerous memories she has with him.

The late Collymore would have been 63 years old.

Wambui versus Media

A respected Kenyan artist, Wambui has largely steered clear of the media, refusing to grant interviews that are not centred around her work.

Following a front page headline where her late husband's Will was exposed, Ms Kamiru issued a statement asking reporters to focus on matters that are of public interest.

"Since 2016 when my name first appeared in press concerning my private life, I have done some interviews and turned down a lot more than I have accepted. Often my interviews are focused on the work I do in the hope that it educates and empowers others. My argument has always been that my personal life is not news worthy,"&nbsp;she stated.

Wambui Kamiru Collymore, widow of the late former Safaricom CEO Bob Collymore, on Tuesday issued a stern message to media reporters in Kenya.

The publicity-shy, career artist took issue with the publication of details of the late Collymore's last wishes contained in his Will.

Kamiru took to her social media pages to address the publication of her late husband's wishes, emphasizing that reporters ought to have concerned themselves with content that could "inform, educate and empower" Kenyans.

She went on to state categorically that she has deliberately turned down various media engagements because she does not consider her personal life "newsworthy".

"Since 2016 when my name first appeared in press concerning my private life, I have done some interviews and turned down a lot more than I have accepted. Often my interviews are focused on the work I do in the hope that it educates and empowers others. My argument has always been that my personal life is not news worthy," she stated.

She went on to share links to articles published by various local and foreign media houses under a hashtag "#StoriesIWantToRead" asking reporters to give prominence to such stories instead of her private life.

Wambui further asked members of the fourth estate to go back to the kind of reporting which "spoke truth to power" instead of wasting its audiences.

"Kenyans are capable of radical change. Kenyans are capable of innovation and are of great resilience. The media should not waste us by having us believe that we have nothing of substance that is newsworthy.

"We also don't have much time to waste. I am not the news. The news is what we are leaving in the dark. Media can determine the future of our country everyday, on that front page by casting light into the dark. On just that one page, media can make or break us as a nation. It is time," she stated.

Ms Wambui thanked Bob for always being in her corner.

"4 years today, you made me, Mrs. C. Thank you for always being in my corner, Mr. C"read her tweet.

The two wed in April 2016, in an invite-only wedding at an up market residence in Kitisuru, Nairobi. The simplicity of the wedding shocked many Kenyans who thought it would be an expensive lavish ceremony.

The bride wore a simple white dress which matched perfectly with her groom’s white shirt and trousers.

Fellow Kenyans joined her in celebrating the anniversary, sending comforting messages and assuring her of support and prayers in these trying times. They revealed how much they had missed him, saying if he were alive, he would be in the front line helping Kenyans fight Coronavirus.

On 13th January 2020, she penned down a lovely birthday message to her hubby reminiscing the good old days when he was still alive.

In her message, Ms Kamiru mentioned that she misses being Collymore’s personal paparazzi in many of their failed selfies. Ms Kamiru added that she will continue loving the CEO.

"Mr. C., I miss being your personal paparazzi for our failed selfies. 6 months, 13 days, 22hrs 20mins since I last saw you. Happy Birthday&nbsp;<a href="https://twitter.com/bobcollymore">@bobcollymore</a>&nbsp;I continue to love you,”&nbsp;shared Wambui.

Collymore passed away at the age of 61 on 1st July 2019 after battling with Acute myeloid leukemia (AML).
