Prior to 2016, the Kenyan media only had two photos of Wanjigi. One taken at the wedding of the Presidential Press Service director, Isaiah Kabira. The second photo was at the funeral service of former Internal Security Minister George Saitoti.
When Wanjigi rose to address the media on Wednesday, it was not only his first press conference but also the first time his wife, Irene Nzisa Wanjigi, appeared in public.
A photo of the wealthy couple, standing together in the face of state intimidation, has gone viral as Kenyans expressed admiration at the public display of affection.
Pulselive.co.ke has established that Irene lives a fabulous life, operating an expensive art Gallery at Kwacha house which is also owned by the Wanjigis.
Her children also go school to the most expensive private school in the world - Institut Le Rosey , popularly referred to as the School of Kings, in Switzerland.
Incidentally, the Graduate of Delhi University, was among Kenyans who made initial donations to the Beyond Zero Charity Campaign after it was launched by First Lady Margaret Kenyatta. President Uhuru Kenyatta and his former schoolmate Jimi would later have a dramatic fall out.
Irene is also a close friend of Grace Kibaki, wife to President Mwai Kibaki’s son, Tony.
