Former governor finally in custody after missing for several hours

Former Nyandarua Governor Daniel Waithaka Mwangi has finally surrendered himself to the state authorities.

Detectives had been looking for the former governor since Wednesday night when DPP Noordin Haji ordered for his arrest.

Mwangi, together with other officials who served in his administration, are wanted in connection to a Sh50 million tender that was irregularly awarded during his tenure.

He is expected to be arraigned at the Nyeri Law Courts on Thursday afternoon.

The ex-Nyandarua county boss becomes the first retired governor to face corruption-related charges since leaving office in August last year.
