Tiaty Member of Parliament Kassait Kamket has made his first move with efforts to bring back the office of the Prime Minister.

The legislator has drafted a bill seeking to alter the constitution to accommodate the office of the Prime Minster and change the structure of the Executive arm.

The drafted bill seeks to amend the constitution and create the position of an executive Prime Minister who will be the head of government.

In the bill, the office of the president will be reduced to the holder of ceremonial duties.

According to the Bill, the PM will be an elected member of National Assembly who will have two deputies to assist him/her in running the government.

The bill proposes that once elected as the Prime Minister, the person will not be allowed to hold a political office.

The bill further states that for one to be elected as the President, he/she must be above 50 years and will serve a single term of seven years.

If the bill is approved by more than two-thirds of the MPs, then the PM will have the power to pick members of his cabinet from members of the National Assembly.

The bill also seeks to change the date of the General Election, from the second Tuesday of August to the second Tuesday of December.

In the bill, the MP proposes the restructuring of the senate format, to allow each county to elect two senators (Man and woman).

The MP is expected to meet the budget and Appropriation committee on Wednesday to defend his proposal.

The public will be given an opportunity to give their views in regards to the Bill.
