From journalists and entertainers to athletes and educators, their untimely deaths have left a void in the hearts of many.

Here's a list of notable Kenyans who passed away in 2024.

1. Ezekiel Otuoma

Former AFC Leopards striker Ezekiel Otuoma passed away on December 20, after a long battle with motor neurone disease.

News of his death was confirmed by his wife, Rachel Otuoma with condolences pouring in for the talented former footballer.

The late footballer who played for several clubs, battled the disease which left him confined to a wheelchair bravely for several years, with his loving and loyal wife Rachel Otuoma by his side.

2. Tabitha Gatwiri

Kenyan content creator Tabitha Gatwiri, passed away on October 13, a loss that left many in shock. Her brother, Brian, discovered her lifeless body at her house.

Initial post-mortem results indicated that Tabitha may have died due to suffocation caused by sleeping in a poor position. However, her family shared that the findings were inconclusive. The actor She was buried on November 15 in Meru County.

3. Bishop Allan Kiuna

Bishop Allan Kiuna, founder and lead pastor of Jubilee Christian Church (JCC), passe away on July 9.

The man of God was diagnosed with cancer in 2018/2019. He managed to keep it under control until this year when it relapsed. He was laid to rest on July 17. The Bishop left behind a wife, Kathy Kiuna, and three children, Vanessa, Stephanie and Jeremy.

4. Fred Omondi

Comedian Fred Omondi, the younger sibling of well-known comedian and activist Eric Omondi, tragically lost his life in a matatu accident.

A police report indicated that the incident happened on the morning of Saturday, 15 June, along Kang'undo Road. Fred had been riding on a passenger motorcycle, which authorities stated was travelling on the wrong side of the road. He was laid to rest in his hometown of Siaya on 30 June.

5. Jahmby Koikai

On June 4, 2024, while undergoing treatment at Nairobi Hospital, Reggae entertainer and health advocate Mary Jahmby Koikai succumbed to her battle with endometriosis.

Throughout her career spanning over two decades, Jahmby captivated audiences with her charisma as a reggae emcee and her commitment to amplifying the voices of marginalised communities

6. General Francis Ogolla

President William Ruto announced that General Francis Ogolla, Chief of Defence Forces, perished in a helicopter crash in the Sindar area at the border of West Pokot and Elgeyo Marakwet on Thursday, April 18.

Together with General Ogolla in the fatal crash were 11 other valiant military personnel; nine of whom also died, while two survived.

Following a Military Honours and Memorial Service held at the Ulinzi Sports Complex on April 20, 2024, General Ogolla was buried at his home in Alego, Siaya County. He left behind a wife, Aileen and two children.

7. June Moi

June Chebet Moi, the daughter of former President Daniel Moi, passed away on Thursday, April 11, 2024.

June, the youngest among the Moi siblings and adopted by the former president, died at the age of 60. She was also a niece to his late estranged wife, Lena Moi.

Her burial took place at the family farm in Bahati, Nakuru County, on April 18, 2024.

8. Rita Tinina

Rita Tinina, a respected journalist known for her impactful reporting, tragically passed away on March 17, 2024, due to severe pneumonia. She was found dead at her residence in Kileleshwa, Nairobi.

The mother of one was laid to rest at their family home in Noosupeni Farm, Olokirikirai, Narok County, on March 27, 2024.

9. Brian Chira

Brian Chira, a popular TikToker, lost his life on March 16, 2024, in a hit-and-run accident. He succumbed to injuries sustained after being hit by a speeding car.

His funeral took place on March 26, 2024, at his family's residence in Gathanje, Ingitei village, Githunguri, Kiambu County.

10. Comedian Chongin Kale

Chongin Kale, a Kalenjin content creator, tragically passed away in a road accident in Bomet.

He was among the five fatalities in a road accident in Silbwet, Bomet county, on March 18, 2024.

11. Kelvin Kiptum

Kelvin Kiptum, a talented marathoner, lost his life in a road crash on February 11, 2024. He was accompanied by his Rwandan coach, Gervais Hakizimana, during the accident.

Kiptum's burial took place on February 23, 2024, in Chepkorio, Elgeyo Marakwet County.

12. Charles Ouda

Charles Ouda, a renowned actor, passed away at the age of 38. The death was announced by family members through his fiancée Ciku Muriuki.

His cause of death was not disclosed, but his last rites and cremation were conducted at the Kariokor Crematorium in Nairobi on February 15, 2024.

13. Lizzie Wanyoike

Lizzie Wanyoike, a celebrated educationist and mentor, battled cancer courageously until her passing on January 14, 2024, at the age of 73.

She was laid to rest on January 23, 2024, at her late husband’s home in Murang’a County, leaving behind three children and 12 grandchildren.

14. Charles Kipsang

Charles Kipsang, a Kenyan athlete, tragically collapsed and passed away after completing the Mount Cameroon Race on February 25, 2024. Efforts to resuscitate him were unsuccessful.

He was pronounced dead upon arrival at Buea Regional Hospital.

15. Starlet Wahu

Starlet Wahu, a 24-year-old Instagram model, was found murdered in a short-term rental in South B on January 3, 2024. She had been strangled, and a deep-cut wound on her thigh had severed a vein.

The accused, John Matara, was apprehended and subsequently charged with her murder.

16. 'Firirinda' hitmaker Dick Munyonyi

Dick Munyonyi, a popular Mugiithi artist, passed away on January 6, 2024, after a prolonged battle with illness.

He rose to fame in 2021 with his hit song 'Firirinda' but faced health challenges afterward. Munyonyi was buried on January 13, 2024.
