Although there is no proven way to prevent prostate cancer, you can at least lower the risk.
According to the American Cancer Society, prostate cancer is the most common type of cancer among men and men over 50 years are at a higher risk of being diagnosed with it. It’s also on the rise among younger men and the black population is at a higher risk.
While the thought of suffering from the dreaded diseases is terrifying, it’s not a death sentence.
But isn’t prevention better than cure? Check out these simple things you can do to lower your risk of getting prostate cancer:
1. Another cup of coffee please
Lots of studies have revealed that coffee indeed helps in decreasing the risk of getting prostate cancer. For every cup of coffee you take, you lower your chances of getting prostate cancer. The ability to lower this risk is linked to kahweol and cafestol which are chemicals contained in coffee and are well known for their ability to fight cancer.
2. Exercise
Hit the road and take a morning run if you cannot go to the gym. Exercise is good for your overall health but also plays a major role in reducing the risk of prostate cancer. If you find it boring, try doing it with friends to make it more fun. When too much fat is accumulated in the middle part of your body, it puts you at an even higher risk.
3. Omega-3 fatty acids
These essential fats are present in sardines, mackerel, tuna, trout and salmon. Feast more on fish and reduce the risk of getting prostate cancer. Fish oil supplements have also been found to slow the growth and spread of prostate cancer cells.

4. Do more fruits and vegetables
To avoid the temptation of packed foods, snack on fruits and vegetables all day long. Fruits and vegetables are loaded with vitamins and nutrients that lower the risk of prostate cancer. They also contain compounds that aid in breaking down carcinogens which are the cancer causing substances.
5. Red foods
Tomatoes and watermelons owe their red color to a substance known as lycopene. Studies show that men who consume more of the foods with lycopene stand a lower chance to get prostate cancer as compared to those who do not.
6. Animal products
I know you can’t wait to go have some beer and nyam chom as you catch up with buddies over the weekend. But you gotta go slow on animal products if you love your life. Instead, opt for plant-based proteins and fats. For instance, you can replace butter with olive oil for cooking. Also, processed red meat is classified among the 1 class carcinogens.
7. More sex
As crazy as it may sound, more ejaculation is healthy for men and it lowers the risk of prostate cancer according to researchers from Havard. According to the research, those who ejaculate for more than 21 times a month stand a lower chance of getting prostate cancer.
