5 things you should never say to your child

Warning

A child’s mind takes in whatever it is fed with. When fed with negativity, they innocently take it.

As a parent, you can either shape your child’s life or destroy it depending on what you tell them and the things you say around them.

What follows is a list of things that you are not supposed to say to your kid regardless of how angry or disappointed you may be:

1. You think money grows on trees?

It’s sad that some parents still use this phrase on their children whenever they feel like their money is being lost for the wrong reasons. Even if your child does not perform well in school despite taking them to expensive schools, never use the above phrase on them.

2. We cannot afford this

Children will always ask for gifts some of which can be too pricey to afford. Nevertheless, you should never let you child see your incapability to afford it as they will be disappointed. Instead, just tell them that you shall get the gift they want some other day.

3. You are a disappointment

They honestly might be a disappointment but saying it to them makes it worse. It makes the child believe your words and they might make no effort in being a better child because you made them believe they are a mess already.

4. So and so is better than you

Comparing your child to other kids is the last thing you want to do. As a parent, you must understand that every kid is unique and they have varying abilities and weaknesses. Your child may not be good in academics but they could be champions in sports or something else.

5. You can’t do this

Even when everyone else believe that your child cannot do something, you still should encourage them to push on. Sometimes as an adult, you can clearly see that it’s really tough for them but you should never discourage them. Support your child’s ambitions and always make them believe that they can achieve anything they want in life.
