2 killed, several injured as lorry rams into crowd along Mombasa road

Two people died on the spot after a lorry lost control and rammed into a crowd.

Five others were rushed to hospital in the Saturday night accident that happened along Mombasa road.

The seven are all believed to be boda boda riders who were waiting for clients when the accident happened.

The accident which happened at the General motors junction on Saturday night caused a heavy traffic along the busy highway.

Emergency rescue teams led by Nairobi City County officials and the police rushed to the scene to coordinate rescue efforts.

Nairobi governor Mike Sonko who was among the first people at the scene of the accident cautioned the public against driving recklessly and driving while drunk.

Through his verified social media accounts, Sonko wrote: “Drive carefully. Do not drink and drive. A lorry has just rammed into 7 boda bodas along the Mombasa road at the General motors junction. Two bodaboda riders have died on the spot. May the Lord rest their souls in eternal peace.”

Investigations have been launched to establish the cause of the accident.
