Police in Nairobi have banned the morning and evening discussions in crowds in Nairobi City centre.

The meetings dubbed Bunge la Mwananchi has been attracting crowds of people to discuss politics, governance, corruption and social welfare in the country.

According to the police officers the meetings are more of a security threat to business premises in the city centre.

Central OCPD Robison Thuku said that the crowds are a big threat to business in the city centre.

"We are doing away with these groupings in the name of Bunge La Mwananchi because many people have raised concern about these groups” said the OCPD.

The OCPD added they are not against Bunge La Mwananchi, but such discussions should be held at open places like Uhuru Park.

The crowds have been gathering in various points around the city with National Archives being the main meeting point.

Other places include Mama Ngina streets, City Hall and streets along Moi Avenue.

The chairman Bunge La Mwannchi City Hall branch Collins Onyango  said that the government is infringing their freedom of expression.
