Ruto retains 6 former CSs as he names 11 nominees for fresh cabinet

President William Ruto has nominated 10 Cabinet Sectraries and the Attorney General as he begins the process of reconstituting his cabinet.

In a state address, Ruto shared names of the nominees six of whom are from his previous cabinet.

The six are Kithure Kindiki, Aden Duale, Rebecca Miano, Siopan Tuiya, Alice Wahome and Davis Chirchir.

"I have started the process of forming a new, broad-based cabinet to assist me in driving the urgently needed and irreversible transformation of our country.

"I hereby nominate the following first batch of 11 individuals for consideration and approval by the National Assembly for appointment as Cabinet Secretaries and Attorney General" said the president.

Below are the nominees:

  1. Interior and National Administration - Prof Kithure Kindiki
  2. Defence - Aden Duale
  3. Water, Sanitation and Irrigation - Eric Murithi Muga
  4. Roads and Transport - Davis Chirchir
  5. Environment, Climate Change and Forestry - Roselinda Soipan Tuiya
  6. Lands, Housing and Urban Development - Alice Wahome
  7. Agriculture and Livestock Development - Dr Andrew Muihia Karanja
  8. Education - Julius Migos Ogamba
  9. Information, Communications and the Digital Economy - Dr Margret Nyambura Ndung'u
  10. Health - Dr Debra Mlongo Barasa
  11. Attorney General - Rebecca Miano

The president said he will issue further directions which will guide the path the new cabinet will take in service delivery to Kenyans.

The president said he is engaging in wider consultations to have the full cabinet reconstituted in due time.

"I am continuing to undertake consultations across the political divide on the balance of cabinet that I will appoint shortly. The consultations are at an advanced stage, I will be issuing next week a clear road map that new cabinet will have with clear timelines and delivarables," said the president.

The constitution allows the president to have a cabinet of not more than 22 and not less than 14\.

The remaining portfolios which still have no nominees are:

  1. National Treasury and Planning
  2. Public Service, Gender and Affirmative Action
  3. Trade, Investment and Industry
  4. East African Community (EAC), Arid and Semi-Arid Lands (ASALs) and Regional Development
  5. Tourism, Wildlife and Heritage
  6. Education, Energy and Petroleum
  7. Youth Affairs, Sports and the Arts
  8. Co-operatives and Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME) Development
  9. Mining, Blue Economy and Maritime Affairs
  10. Labour and Social Protection
