Renowned journalist and published Rasnah Warah is dead.
Warah passed away at the age of 63 on Saturday, January 11, 2025 after a short illness.
Her death was confirmed by family, with close friend and fellow human rights activist Alamin Kimathi sharing the sad news on social media.

The cause of death was not immediately clear.
Activism and speaking truth to power
She was a fierce activist who was in touch with the much that was happening around her, speaking truth to power and making her voice clear on several issues.
She zealously championed for good governance and accountability in government, calling out the government for any wrong deeds.
She boldly spoke up against abductions, using her social media platforms to amplify the message and call for an end to abductions in the country and the release of all who had been abducted.
Illustrious career
Warrah worked for the United Nations (UN) as editor of the State of the World’s Cities report and Habitat Debate.
Her illustrious career also saw her write for leading media organisations as well as several bodies including Mail and Guardian, Daily Nation, The Elephant, The East African, Cityscapes, State of the World, UN Chronicle and Kwani?
Rasna Warah's books
She also published several books, including two on Somalia - War Crimes (2014) and Mogadishu Then and Now (2012).
Her other books include UNsilenced (2016), and Triple Heritage (1998).
Battle with breast cancer
In 2022, the accomplished journalist shared her experience and thoughts after being diagnosed with breast cancer.
She bravely battled cancer, refusing to bow until her last breath.
