Kenyans angered by Sonko's move

Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko has been scolded by Kenyans on Twitter and Medical practitioners for inviting ‘Lead surgeons’ to carry out kidney transplant at Mbagathi Hospital.

The governor was blamed for misleading Kenyans by the fierce KOT.

The information came to the public’s attention after Sonko tweeted informing the public about it. His tweet read;

"A visit by county officials to Mbagathi Hospital where the first kidney transplant will take place this week. Lead surgeons from India will train local doctors so that they can carry on with the operations.”

The governor went ahead to ask those having kidney problems to visit the facility.

His announcement elicited different reactions from Kenyans others agreeing with the governor following Kenyatta national Hospital recent scandals that led to the death of one University of Nairobi student whose operation was delayed.

A section of Kenyans others believe that Kenyan doctors are qualified to train Mbagathi hospital doctors and Sonko’s move is degrading the country’s doctors. They believe that Kenyans are being deceived.

KTN’s health reporter Dr. Mercy Korir was angered by the Governor’s move and she left a comment, “Why lead surgeons from India yet we have competent Kenyan surgeons (urologists) who have been doing kidney transplants in this country for many years?”

Secretary General KMPDU Ouma Oluga told the Governor to build Kenya since the Indian surgeons can’t keep the healthcare system in tabs.

He added that, “We have surgeons who perform this operation right here in Kenya. This theatrics won't make our system better. Addressing the real problems facing Mbagathi and workers' will!" We’ve been doing Kidney transplants for a while now. Karibu!”
