Do you already know your skin type? No? Then maybe you should first do a simple test to know what your skin type is. That way, you will be able to take care of your skin in a much better way. Every skin type has a recommended skincare routine. If your skin is oily, a dry skincare routine might not work for you. There are also rules to be followed and things to avoid for each skin type.

For example, if you have dry skin, making these mistakes might only make it worse:

1. Skipping the moisturizer

Whether you have dry, normal or oily skin, nobody should skip the moisturizer. But for people with dry skin, it’s even worse. It makes your skin drier hence exposing you to bacteria because your skin is not being protected.

2. Moisturizing when it’s dry

If you have dry skin, you should moisturize as soon as you leave the shower. Moisturizing helps in locking in the moisture so that your skin stays hydrated. To lock in maximum moisture, do not wait until your skin is completely dry. Or else, dampen your skin every time you are applying moisturizer.

3. Hot showers

Your skin is dry already and you are not doing it justice by taking hot showers. We get that they are soothing and relaxing, but they also strip off the natural oils on your skin.

4. Picking a random cream/lotion

Your skin may not be prone to breakouts but some products will make your dry skin drier. That said, always go for creams and lotions that are water-based and those that have been formulated for dry skin.

5. Using harsh soaps and cleansers

If you are already struggling with dry skin, you need to choose your soaps and cleansers carefully. Very harsh soaps will dry out your skin even more. Opt for gentle cleansers that also have moisturizing properties.

6. Over-exfoliating

There’s no debating that exfoliating is good for your skin. It removes dead cells on your skin, and it also unclogs the pores leaving you with vibrant looking skin. Even so, doing it so often especially for some with dry skin will dry your skin more.
