The mother of Sharon Otieno, the Rongo University student brutally murdered in Homa Bay County, now fears that those behind the death of her daughter could be targeting her.
Speaking during a ceremony held at her home where various women leaders were present, Melida Auma pleaded with the government to offer her family protection.
"These days I even take my bath here I am not secure because I might be the next person," Ms. Auma said.
Sharon was murdered and her badly mutilated body dumped in Kodera Forest. Her demise came hours after she was abducted alongside Nation journalist Barrack Oduor who escaped death by a whisker.

Migori Governor Okoth Obado has been mentioned widely in the murder of Sharon as his Personal Assistant Michael Oyamo was the last person who was in contact with the 26-year-old and Mr. Oduor.

Ms. Auma is on record affirming that her daughter, who was seven-months pregnant at the time of her death, had entered a relationship with Obado on the promise that she would be given lucrative county tenders.
Melida further mentioned that the promise of tenders for her daughter’s businesses was not kept and that she ended up getting pregnant.

“He lied to my daughter that he would award her business tenders in the county. My daughter even registered a company believing Obado would give her the business deal. There is evidence in her phone log and texts. The girl’s phone is with the Migori County Commander (Joseph Nthenge),’ she said.
At the same time, female leaders in the area led by Kisumu Women Representative Rosa Buyu have vowed to hold a naked protest if Mr. Obado is not arrested and prosecuted over the murder.
