President Uhuru Kenyatta’s name has been dragged into a case involving four Cabinet Secretaries from Mt Kenya, who were summoned to record statements with DCI over a plan to assassinate Deputy President William Ruto.

Industrialization CS Peter Munya, who spoke on behalf of the CSs and other senior government officials, said the meetings they held were on the instructions of President Kenyatta.

They, however, denied that the meetings discussed anything sinister against Ruto or any other individuals – saying they were purely for development purposes.

The President asked me to coordinate meetings with CSs and senior government officials from Mt Kenya after complaints by area MPs that they were having challenges accessing us," the CS stated.

Rachel Ruto is no stranger to making bold yet elegant fashion statements, but during the state visit of the Dutch royals on March 18, 2025, it wasn’t just her outfit that stood out—it was her shoes. The Kenyan First Lady stepped out in a pair of brown suede block heels adorned with a gold emblem.

Our meetings were meant to fast track development projects in the Mt Kenya region which has an equal right to access development like any other region. There was nothing sinister about this and we are surprised that such a wild unsubstantiated claim can come from the office of the Deputy President,” Munya said, adding that the investigation officer had informed that they had received a complaint from Ruto via a phone call.

He was accompanied by his colleagues in the Cabinet Sicily Kariuki, ICT CS Joe Mucheru, and Transport CS James Macharia.

Also summoned was State House-based official Andrew Wakahiu, who head the President’s Delivery Unit (PDU), as well as Interior PS Karanja Kibicho.

The officials, however, did not record a statement as the DP had not given a formal complaint, saying they were willing to do so once Ruto had formally recorded the matter in the OB.
